Gilding & Restoration

The Gilding & Restoration Workshop is situated in a cob barn in the beautiful grounds of Cockington Court, South Devon. Philip Joyce is a master craftsman with over 30 years of experience in restoration and gilding. Following a background in fine art and teaching, Philip went on to train with the world renowned Riccardo Giaccherini of Fine Frames in Newman St, London W1.

After many years honing his craft he opened his own Gilding & Restoration workshop in Shoreditch, East London, where he undertook commissions from, most notably The National Portrait Gallery and Tate Britain as well as many top London dealers and private clients. Philip was also an Artist in Residence teaching Gilding at the Chippendale School of Furniture. After many successful years in London, Philip moved to Devon where he has recently opened a new Gilding & Restoration workshop in Cockington Court.

Gary Tovey had a background in property renovation and interior design before training under Philip Joyce and is a highly trained gilder and restorer with a good eye for detail. He brings his wealth of experience of working with design and vision to the workshop.

The Gilding and Restoration Workshop, therefore, offers a wealth of knowledge and expertise in sympathetic restoration and gilding using traditional methods and is familiar with re-cutting and finishing pieces to an original finish matching the original patina.
